Rated: PG
Spoilers: Season three
Disclaimer: Not mine

"Family Portrait- next part"

Summary: See part one.

Orson stepped up behind his wife and brought his lips close to her ear. “Hello, Darling” He breathed and Bree turned around, a smile spreading across her face. “Orson, what are you doing here?” She put the sugar she had been taking out of the shelf into her grocery cart, then wrapped her arms around her husband´s neck and kissed him deeply. “I called before I left the office and Danielle said you were still at the mall, so I thought I´d take my chance.” “That´s perfect, I´ve been so bored all alone.” “Well, I have every intention to brighten up your boring shopping trip…” He kissed her again and Bree literally seemed to melt into his arms. He finally let go of her and took her shopping list out of her hand, consulting it. “Bree, there´ll still be shops when you wake up in the morning, you know.” “Stop mocking me- I´ll have to bake the whole morning, I won´t have time to go shopping again- besides, what would you rather have me home tomorrow morning or be out at the mall again?” “Fair point- so let´s hurry up so we can get home- I´m starving and besides I can´t wait to have you all to myself.”

Bree smiled as she watched Orson push her shopping card down the aisle, he managed to amaze her over and over again- instead of going home and waiting for her he actually had come over here to help her and he hadn´t even really complained about her two paper- sheets long shopping list. She followed her husband down the next aisle and had just taken a package of flour down from a shelf when she heard her name. “Hey, Bree-“ She turned around to see Gabrielle walking towards her with a baby- carriage and her six months old daughter Christina on her arm. Gabrielle´s voice sounded much less enthusiastic when she turned to Bree´s husband. “Hi Orson.” Orson smiled politely, then signalized to Bree that he would leave them alone. “Gabby, hi- aw, that jacket is so sweet.” “Yeah, my mother gave it to me- she´s very taken with Chrissy, more than she has ever been with me, anyway. So what are you doing here that late?” “Uhm, I had Parker and Penny over this morning and we made pancakes for breakfast and I need some time to clear up the mess afterwards.” Gabrielle laughed. “Oh my God, I bet Orson loved this.” “What do you mean?” “Come on, Bree, he hates children.” “That´s a bit harsh- he doesn´t hate them, he´s just not- well, he doesn´t really know what to do with them.” “Well, as long as he knows what to do with you…” “Gabrielle.” Gabby chuckled. “Sorry, I couldn´t resist- I have to go now, Carlos will be over for dinner. See you tomorrow at four?” “Yes- so try and have a good evening.” “It will be all right and after all, he´s Chrissy´s father and I want them to have a normal relationship.” “Yes, of course you do.” Bree gently stroked the small girl´s hair, then kissed her friend´s cheek.

Orson looked up from his magazine when Bree walked towards him. “You´re already finished?” “Yes, sure- so how was you talk with Gabby?” He couldn´t help but notice that Bree wasn´t quite meeting his eyes when she said “It was- nice.” “Ok, what did she say about me this time?” “What do you mean?” “Oh come on, she hates me, there´s never a conversation between you and her where she doesn´t make at least on jest about me.” Bree sighed and leaned her head against his shoulder. “It was nothing, really, I just told her that we had Penny and Parker over this morning and she said that you will have loved this and when I asked her what that was supposed to mean she said you hate kids.” Orson wondered briefly if he should respond to this, then decided against it. He didn´t actually hate kids- well, maybe he even did but what did it matter- Bree´s were almost grown up and the few hours a week he was confronted with their neighbour´s he could survive. He took Bree´s hand and smiled at her. “Come on, let´s get out of here.”
