Orson found his wife on a bench, dissolved in tears. He sat down next to her, wondering what to do. He had known of course that there was a good chance that Bree´s son would reappear in her life at some point and that it might cause trouble but he hadn´t thought it would be that troublesome- and that she would be that devastated. He took a handkerchief out of his pocket and handed it to her, then took her hand. “Come on, let´s go home.” She didn´t say one word and Orson began to feel worried. First he had assumed that she simply hadn´t found Andrew but now he was wondering if perhaps she had found Andrew and it hadn´t worked out the way she had expected it to. After learning that she had abandoned her son on a roadside Orson could imagine how much rage the boy must feeling, how much hatred towards a mother who in his eyes had been too weak to help him during his own hurt and confusion after his father´s death but instead had despaired over her own pain. Orson pulled Bree to him and asked “What happened, Darling? Did you find him?” She nodded, hiding her face in his shirt and Orson sighed while stroking her hair. He didn´t know what to say, he so much wanted to take away her pain but he couldn´t think of anything that would make her get over the fact that her son obviously didn´t want to talk to her. “Look, let´s go home, ok? You´re exhausted and you´re upset, you should eat something and sleep.” Bree didn´t answer at all and so Orson wordlessly got up and pulled her up with him. He led her over to the car and helped her into the passenger seat, glad that he had insisted on accompanying her, driving in the state she was in wouldn´t have been the best idea.
Bree hardly noticed her husband stopping the car in front of their house and she didn´t even look up when Orson opened the door for her and helped her out. She felt like falling through thick fog, everything was blurred and distant and the short walk from the car up to the front door seemed like an unmanageable challenge. “Hey…” Orson´s voice was soft but she could hear the slight hint of despair and it brought tears to her eyes again. She didn´t want him to be disappointed and upset, she wanted him to be happy with her but she just couldn´t summon the energy to smile at him and tell him everything would be all right again for it wouldn´t be. She leaned against him for support, his warmth and love was all that kept her from shattering into a million pieces. Orson kissed her forehead, then swept her up into his arms and carried her up the garden path. Bree relaxed into her husband´s arms, she trusted him completely and that realization made her feel a bit better, she had been so scared that she would never be able to trust or love again and here she was, helplessly drawn to this man and so very much in love with him that it made her heart ache. Orson carefully put her down to unlock the door and Bree tried hard to pull herself together a bit. Her husband looked at her and she finally managed a tiny smile. “It´s ok, I can walk now.” She led the way over into the kitchen where Orson insisted on her sitting down while he began to make tea and fix some sandwiches. She refused to eat at first, but he wouldn´t let her and Bree had to smile again when he picked up a sandwich and brought it up to her lips. “Orson, I can eat alone.” “I know you can, but since you won´t I´ll make you.” Bree took a bite of the sandwich and savoured the taste, every meal her husband made was delicious, whether it was simple sandwich or a gourmet meal. It took an amazingly short time for her to finish and she didn´t refuse anymore when her husband handed her a second sandwich before getting up to get their tea.
